I am currently working on two monoprint bodies of work, the Forest Series and the Math Series. Although the images of the two series are very different, they share the same personal vision and thought process. In both, the work evolves over time and incorporates layers of experience. The monoprints have an archaeological feel because the image builds over time. One may look through the layers to find the hidden views underneath.

The Forest Series stems from my lifelong love of the forest. Every place I have lived has had a distinct type of woods, with its own special sounds and smells. However, the Forest Series does not seek to document the woods. Rather, my prints are an expression of my experiences within the forest. Each print starts with my photographic image of an actual forest which I then enlarge and change, imbuing it with my own shapes, colors and lines. The addition of collage provides the viewer with a glimpse of an altered dimension, a place of mystery beyond the picture plane.

The Math Series was inspired by a hydrodynamics book published in 1890. Most pages are covered with individual equations and their derivations which are totally abstract visual images to me. The equations, punctuated by prose, become an exercise in positive and negative space. I combine the hard equations with organic forms from my etching, drypoint and woodcut plates as well as additional geometric symbols. By uniting the disparate elements of chaos and order, I have created my own visual language.

I work on both series simultaneously. Each series combines the technology of xerox lithography with the organic elements of collagraphs, drypoints, etching and woodcuts to create very different results.
