Louisiana in the Studio
This final Gallery exhibit will run through February 2007

The subject of these paintings are simple and familiar Louisiana objects arranged and presented for observation. Banana branches and marsh grasses are arranged in the studio and then painted honestly and directly with a careful but painterly hand.

New Monotypes on Paper
Opening Reception Saturday
January 6th, 6 - 9 p.m.

This is a show of pathways into the lives of New Orleanians that have endured one of life's changing events. Many have risen above the waters and have become the vibrant color that we all see on the houses and doorways that are the architectural foundations surrounding us. Those who have returned, bringing
with them the faith and love that leads us over new thresholds, carry on the colors that we draw a soulful energy from. . . keeping this New Orleans a colorful candy shop for all.

David D’Agostino
Exhibit on view through December 30
D'Agostino’s work can power down with almost troubling ease to behave as deadpan décor. Full of juxtapositions, the paintings are the result of quick photography sessions in the New Orleans area and Ninth Ward, drawings of weeds taking over abandoned structures, and a metaphorical desire for healing. The paintings, presented as triptychs and polyptychs, murmur the extreme echoes of chaos and order, and each extreme hangs upon the existence of its other.

Cara Ober
Exhibit on view through December 30
“Cara references stencils, the patterns of wallpaper and fabrics, tattoos, and illustrations from childhood books. At times, she also allows words to creep into her compositions. Like chipped and fading walls that have begun to reveal overlapping and embedded fragments from years of human efforts at decoration and expression, Ober’s paintings ask viewers to make sense of out-of-place scraps of imagery emerging against worn but still richly colored surfaces.”
